JoHannah Macbeth is a recent home school graduate. While growing up, playing an instrument was a requirement. At at the age of ten JoHannah began studying piano, four years later adding viola to her repertoire. Music quickly grew into more than just another subject in school. In addition to receiving private instruction, JoHannah participated in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School ‘s Youth Orchestra, chamber ensembles, masterclasses, music competitions, and summer camps. Passionate about classical music, JoHannah wishes to give the gift of music by mentoring and teaching those behind her.

As a student teacher, JoHannah uses the Suzuki method to establish a foundation, while combining it with a traditional classical approach. Students would be provided with a basic knowledge of rhythm, technique, theory, duet playing, musical style, and music history. JoHannah is able to teach from little to no experience up until an intermediate level. Recommendations are available upon request.

Lessons occur weekly or bi-weekly during the school semesters with a year end performance.

JUNK FUNK (all ages)

Imagine. Invent. Be Creative. Make “GREEN MUSIC!”

45 Minute Classes; $8/class; Minimum class size=8; Maximum=15

10-Week Session

Based primarily in rhythm and recycling, students will create an ensemble where they will learn basic rhythm skills, invent and create musical instruments made from recycled materials, compose a musical piece utilizing these instruments, and perform the piece(s) in concert.  For all willing students, we can record a short video of his/her instrument and send it to an online virtual museum of student invented instruments.

Requirements: Parents/adults may be needed to assist in the creating of some instruments, i.e. finding materials, using power tools, etc.

DRUMMING, DRUM CIRCLE & PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE (ages 8-11, 12-17)

45 Minute Classes, $8/class, Minimum class size=5; Maximum=12

15-Week Sessions (September to December, January to May)

Create an ensemble by having students learn basic to advanced drumming and rhythm skills, apply those skills to a variety of drum and percussion instruments (including hand drums, drum-set, snare drum, shakers, xylophone, etc,) and play musical pieces. This ensemble will perform at least one culminating concert at the end a session.  Second session group may possibly participate in an annual adjudicated percussion festival at URI in March.

Materials: Students are responsible for acquiring a pair of drumsticks and a practice pad.

COMPOSERS’ WORKSHOP (all ages)

45 Minute Classes; $8/class; Minimum class size=8; Maximum=15

10-Week Session

This is an opportunity for students to work individually or in small groups to learn the basics of reading/writing/composing music, playing musical instruments, and potentially utilizing music technology software/programs if computer resources are available.  Students will perform their pieces in concert and record their songs to CD/digital audio file.

Materials: Instructor will provide a variety of instruments to work with, however, students are encouraged to bring their own instrument(s) to compose with.

ROCK BAND (ages 10-17)

Form a band. Learn/write songs. Record a CD. Play a show.

1 Hour Classes, $10/class, Minimum class size=5; Maximum=12

15-Week Sessions (September to December, January to May)

Open to students who have at least one year of experience: Singing, or Playing Guitar (electric or acoustic with pick-up), Bass, Keyboard, Drum set, Horns (Trumpet, Saxophone, Trombone or other).

Materials: Students must have their own instrument and equipment. PA system, keyboard and Drum-set can be provided.

JAZZ BAND (ages 10-17)

1 Hour Classes, $10/class, Minimum class size=5; Maximum=12

15-Week Sessions (September to December, January to May)

Similar to the Rock Band format above, but the Jazz Band will require a bit more music reading and will also be better able to include a greater variety of instruments.  Open to students who have at least one year of experience playing: Violin, Viola, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Drum-set, Percussion, or Voice

Materials: Students must have their own instrument and music stand.  PA system, keyboard and Drum-set can be provided.

ANY INSTRUMENT” ORCHESTRA (ages 8-12)

Woodwinds, Strings, Percussion, Guitar, Piano, Other

1 Hour Classes, $10/class, Minimum class size=5; Maximum=12

15-Week Sessions (September to December, January to May)

Open to students who have at least 4 months experience playing their instrument. This is an opportunity for students to play in an instrumental ensemble, which is an invaluable experience for young musicians.  The Any Instrument Orchestra will explore a wide variety of musical literature, practice once per week, and will perform at least one culminating concert at the end a session.

RHYTHM TODDLERS (ages 2-4)

10-Week Session

Toddlers will sing and play action songs, experience many different musical instruments, move to creative, live music, and gain motor-skills and social-skills as they have fun.

Requirements: Caregivers are expected to stay and have fun moving and playing with the children.

Classes are intended to be held at a host family’s home or other owned space.  All class locations and times are to be determined by the home school coordinator/host family and Mr. Matt.  Fees are full for first child, half-price for the second child, and then quarter-price if there any other siblings that remain who meet the class requirements.  Fee for host family child is waived.

Today the Angel Food program now is helping provide food relief to more than 500,000 families each month.  Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of families every month across 44 states. Angel Food Ministries crosses denominational lines and has spread the good news of the gospel of Christ through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order.

Blessings by the box

Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.

The menu for Angel Food varies from month to month, and all orders through Angel Food are ordered and picked up at local Host Sites; churches, organizations, schools and outreaches throughout the United States.

The Barnes & Noble Warwick Location Unveils our new section for Educators!!

Open House is Friday, June 18th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm!

~Join us for refreshments, giveaways and an opportunity to sample the new educational games.~

For shopping convenience, the B&N@School sections in Barnes & Noble stores are arranged by grade level, from pre- to elementary grades, to middle school and high school. Materials are categorized by topic for each age group. B&N@School includes additional sections emphasizing curricula, basic skills workbooks, arts, crafts and activities. The section also features educational toys and games, manipulatives (hands-on learning products employing a multisensory approach), decorative items and awards.

• B&N@School Pre-K-12 learning materials include workbooks and classroom materials categorized by grade and subject matter.
• B&N@School Pre-K-12 also features a new educational DVD store and a quick, efficient way to shop for favorite educational brands, including LeapFrog, ThinkFun and Scientific Explorer.
• B&N@School Pre-K-12 study aids include bestselling prep books categorized by test, including Advanced Placement prep and PSAT, SATI and SAT II materials.
• B&N@School special needs resources are aimed at educating children with learning, physical and emotional disabilities, with more materials now dedicated specifically to autism, ADD andDown Syndrome.
